Tough Competition at WASSAC 2019

Yesterday saw fifty-six of Port Lincoln High School’s top athletes compete in the annual Western Areas Secondary School Athletics Carnival (WASSAC) at the Ravendale Community Sports Centre. With large qualifying numbers, our students were split into divisions A and B.

PLHS finished in a winning position for Open Division B, along with a highly credible second place in the Division B Handicap Shield. In the Division A Championship Shield, we finished in third position overall on 358 points. Once again, the formidable Far West team was ultimately too strong, winning with 426 points.

Congratulations to the following PLHS students who were awarded individual age champion honours:

  • Anna Te Wano (Division B Under 14 Girls Winner)
  • Max Rogalski (Division B Under 16 Boys Winner)
  • Ella Stevens (Division A Open Girls Winner)
  • Dylan Stigwood (Division B Open Boys Winner)

All staff were extremely proud of their participating students; they showed athleticism, determination, encouragement and overall positive sportsmanship throughout the day. Our school was represented well by these students and we look forward to tracking their ongoing athletic achievements.

The results from yesterday’s WASSAC will be used in the selection process for the 2019 Far West team, which is due to compete at SANTOS Stadium in Adelaide on Tuesday April 9th. The initial team will be selected by Mr Peter Tokarski, then finalised by the respective Far West schools (more information to come).

Special thank yous go to PLHS staff Miss Yasmin Stewart, Mr Shaun Maxfield, Miss Mikaela Sawyer and Mr Michael Paech for their contribution towards the success of the day.
