Success at Annual Basketball Carnival

Open Boys: Colby Syvertsen Breaks 6-year Drought

A huge congratulations to the Port Lincoln High School Open Boys Basketball team for taking home the interschool basketball flag this year. Coached by the cool and composed Cohen Dinnison, the boys were destined for greatness. Our early game saw us front Navigator College; we found our straps early and with the promise of a Zinger Burger as an incentive, Hayden Carey quickly demoralised our opponents with a glorious display of slam dunks – creating much-needed rest breaks as the goals kept needing re-alignment. A convincing win of 55-27 put as in as good a spot as any to take the flag.

Later in the afternoon, we fronted reigning champions, St Joseph’s School. The first half saw a good old-fashioned arm wrestle, with each side putting up a fierce display resulting in a close score. In the third quarter however, Colby Syversten came alive (although his demeanour appeared nonchalant). Colby, the man-on-fire, began making the three pointers rain, completely awing both the crowd and the opposition. He proceeded to hit eight out of ten shots – the boy could hardly miss and we concluded with a convincing win of 59-43.

Open Girls: Teamwork, Mateship & Giggles

Our Open Girls also enjoyed some success, placing second for the day with a victory over Navigator’s but a loss to St. Joseph’s. All of the girls – Tara Pelham, Kahlila Murray, Shakaya Walsh, Jayleighka Rigney, Yemaya Coleman-Smith and Jordyn Bryant – put in an exceptional display of teamwork and mateship, giggling their way through each game.

A huge congratulations and thanks to all involved for such a wonderful day.
