Governing Council Community Voice (August 9)

Your Governing Council met recently and commended the great work of the school’s Centenary Planning sub-committee and the fabulous support from the Port Lincoln History Group in preparing for a memorable weekend of celebrations and associated events (Friday September 29th ~ Sunday October 1st).

Question: What brings together travelers from Berlin, New Zealand and all across Australia, Her Excellency, the Honorable Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia, the Chief Justice of South Australia, the Honorable Chris Kourakis and the wider Port Lincoln community?

Answer: Port Lincoln High School celebrating 100 years of service and education for youth and community.

The Centenary Showcase gala concert at the Nautilus Theatre is shaping up to be a cracker with the performing arts providing a program of dance, drama and music performances. The Governor of SA will open this wonderful evening. Hop in now to secure your tickets.

It’s not too late! Although we have reached sales of over 100 signature pavers for 100 years of school service, you can still secure a lasting record of your family, business or community organisation’s relationship with the school by ordering now via the Qkr! app. Your paver will add to the paths that meander through the newly established Centenary Garden. Current and future students/families can purchase a paver as an ongoing project to record their connection to the school.

A shout out from the Governing Council to Joyce and the Canteen crew for providing a quality service to students and staff during challenging economic times. Please use the service and support the PLHS Canteen when you can. The Canteen menu (including daily specials) are available online and orders via the Qkr! app.

Keep your ear out for the PLHS School Band performing at the Port Lincoln Show this Sunday (August 13th); while you are there, come and view the Centenary photo boards featuring past students and staff. You may be in one of them!

Governing Council thought you’d like to know about the myfuture website: myfuture – Australia’s National Career Information Service | myfuture. Your child may be thinking about subject selections for next year or preparing to make future learning choices on higher education, vocational education and training (VET) and/or apprenticeships. The myfuture website provides free family-friendly resources to assist students and parents to explore options and pathways and inform these important decisions. Students can use an online tool to map their own career profile and access up-to-date information about occupations, the training and qualifications required and indicative pathways and salaries for each.

Cheers,

Brian Gabb & the PLHS Governing Council
