Cross Country Runners Do PLHS Proud

Last month, we reported on the efforts of nine PLHS students who participated in the annual Tcharkulda Rock Cross Country Running event near Minnipa. Following this carnival, three of our students became eligible to compete in the SA Cross Country State Championships, held yesterday at Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills – congratulations to Amelia “Mim” Stevens (Year 10), Deppler Clarke (Year 10) and Max Rodda (Year 8) on this wonderful recognition.

In cold, wet and slippery conditions, Mim came a brilliant 3rd in the Under 16 Girls and Max came 15th in his division; unfortunately, a determined but ultimately disappointed Deppler was unable to finish his race due to injury.

In preparation for the Championships, Mim (and her father Sam) travelled to Birdsville in south-west Queensland on the edge of the Simpson Desert in early June; there they competed in the Simpson Desert Ultra, a new ultramarathon in the heart of the Australian outback. Mim completed the gruelling 25km course over sand dunes and across rocky plains in an incredible 3 hours and 27 minutes. (Images below)

We are extremely proud of our dedicated cross country runners.
