Content:

All students will develop their mathematical knowledge and skills in the curriculum strands of:

• Number and Algebra
• Measurement and Geometry
• Statistics and Probability

Students will be assessed using a variety of activities such as skills and application tasks, directed investigations and projects. Topics covered in Year 8 include:

• Number and Place Value
• Fractions and Decimals
• Real Numbers
• Money and Financial Mathematics
• Patterns and Algebra
• Linear & Non-Linear Relationships
• Units of Measurement
• Shape
• Location & Transformation
• Geometric Reasoning
• Pythagoras and Trigonometry
• Chance
• Data Representations and Interpretations

Assessment:

Student performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
