Content:

This course provides students with opportunities to understand art through analysis, research and practice, and to assist them in undertaking further education or employment within visual arts fields.

The course has three assessment components:

  • Folio (40%): 40 x A3 pages students document their visual learning in support of two practical works/suite of work or a body of work
  • Practical (30%): students produce two major practical works/suite of work or a body of work and an accompanying 500-word Artist’s Statement for each or 1000- word for a body of work
  • Visual Study (30% External Component): 20 x A3 pages (2,000 words – 50% theory/50% practical studies) Through guided individual research, students explore an area of personal interest related to the Visual Arts

Due to the time-consuming nature of this course, students are required to make an extra time commitment.

Pathway: Study in this subject leads to careers in the fields of Photography, Digital/Multi Media, Fine Art, Spatial/Product/Graphic Design, Product Design, Writing/Analytical, Fashion/Textiles, Arranging/Display and Organisation/People Management. This subject leads to a variety of TAFE, University and Art/Design School courses. A folio of work is normally required to gain entry.

Incidental Costs: Students may elect to purchase special materials and are invited to attend a two-day excursion to Adelaide at the end of Term 1, to support their study of the visual arts.

Assessment:

At Stage 2, students are assessed using grade levels from A+ to E−. The subject grades for both stages are based on the performance standards described in each subject outline. Assessment decisions about individual tasks are made with reference to the performance standards. At Stage 2, the SACE Board combines the grades for each of the school assessment types with the grade for the external assessment component to produce a student’s final subject grade.
