Recommended background: It is recommended that students have previously undertaken Physical Education and/or Sports Studies

Content:

Learning is delivered through an integrated approach where opportunities are provided for students to undertake, and learn through, a wide range of authentic physical activities (e.g. sports, theme-based games, laboratories, and fitness and recreational activities).

Students explore movement concepts and strategies through these physical activities to promote and improve participation and performance outcomes. All assessments include in-depth performance analysis and evaluation using sports science vocabulary.

Stage 2 Physical Education has three focus areas:

  • In Movement
  • Through Movement
  • About Movement

Themes: Performance analysis, Performance Improvement, Interplay of energy systems, biomechanics, skill acquisition, Group dynamics

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards as outlined in the Subject Outline. Grades A+ to E- will be used for reporting purposes. Students are encouraged to produce work in a multi-modal format.

  • School Assessment (70%): Assessment Type 1: Diagnostics – Energy Systems in Touch Footy (15%) & Diagnostics – Biomechanics in a Skill of Choice (15%), Assessment Type 2: Improvement Analysis – Volleyball Individual Improvement 4,000 words (40%)
  • External Assessment (30%): Assessment Type 3: Group Dynamics (30%)
