Recommended background: Successful completion of Year 10 History

Content:

Students will study two historical topics, which will enhance student’s historical inquiry and sources analyses skills. They will explore the origins, nature and consequences through film and various other primary and secondary sources. They will be required to develop their own inquiry questions to guide their research and present their findings in a variety of multimodal forms.

Students will have the opportunity to study two of the following:

  • Imperial Expansion
  • Decolonisation
  • Indigenous Peoples
  • 20th Century Liberation Movements
  • Revolution
  • An elective

The historical focus will embody the reasons for social, economic and political change and students will develop historical skills of enquiry, research and analysis of source material.

In completing this course, students undertake three historical skills assessments and one historical study.

Leads to: Stage 2 Modern History

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.

  • Skills assessment – three historical skills assessments; these should comprise a combined maximum of 2,400 words if written, or a maximum of 15 minutes if oral, or the equivalent in multimodal form; one will be completed under exam conditions
  • Historical study – the historical study should be a maximum of 1000 words, or 6 minutes, or the equivalent in multimodal form
