Content:

PLACE (Port Lincoln Art Centre Enterprise) is a semester course offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with an interest in the Visual Arts. This 80% practical and 20% theory course provides students with an opportunity to further develop techniques and skills associated with the production of artworks. There is an emphasis on art as enterprise and key topics covered include:

  • the development of an artist portfolio
  • marketing strategies
  • event participation/organisation (art prize/festival/exhibition/curator)
  • tertiary and career options

ENTERPRISE OPPORTUNITIES WILL VARY FOR EACH SEMESTER.

Works submitted to exhibitions will be available for sale with benefits to participating student artists. Students will conceive, develop and present practical works that explore connections with culture, identity, family and place. Students will continue to develop a rich use of language and terminology related to the Visual Arts.

This course leads to SACE Stage 1 Visual Arts – Art and Stage 1 Aboriginal Studies – Art Focus.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. This includes assessment of achievement in both making and responding.
