Content:

This course is suitable for students with a passion for recreational fishing or an interest in a career in the Maritime Industry. It is largely practical and requires students to demonstrate high levels of maturity and responsibility. This is a subject that also appears in our FIP pathway suite and should be chosen if a student is interested in completing a Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Inner Coastal) the following year. Topics of study may include:

  • marine studies (oceanography)
  • understanding weather
  • maps and navigation using sea charts
  • small boat handing
  • design and construction of boats
  • nautical concepts and skills
  • introduction to marine motors
  • students will complete their recreational boat license

Special Comments: The PADI dive course can be organised for students following a commercial dive pathway, but funding of this will be the responsibility of the family. Other incidental costs ($50 minimum) will be required to cover excursions.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
