Length: Semester or Full Year

Recommended background: Successful completion of Year 9 Dance

Content:

In Year 10 Dance, students will develop, create, explore, analyse, reflect and perform. Students will explore and choreograph dances by manipulating and combining the elements of dance, choreographic devices, and production elements to communicate choreographic intent. They will choreograph, rehearse and perform dances, demonstrating technical and expressive skills appropriate to the genre and style. Student will evaluate the impact of dance from different cultures, places and times in Australian dance.

Dance develops individuals to be reflective thinkers who can pose and solve problems and work both independently and collaboratively. As students engage with dance practices and practitioners, they develop imaginative ways to make meaning of the world.

Dance has its own movement vocabulary and specific techniques and processes that students learn and apply to their own work as a dancer and choreographer and use to interpret, understand, and appreciate the work of others.

In Semester 1, Year 10 Dance will focus on developing performance specific skills. Students will be provided with the opportunity to gain experience in a theatre setting, with a final performance in front of a live audience.

In Semester 2, Year 10 Dance will focus on developing choreographic specific skills. Students will research and explore a range of choreographic tools to create their own work, that will be presented to a small audience at the end of the semester.

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes.
