It has been a busy term in the kitchen for Miss Butterick’s Year 9 Food Technology class. Recently, students completed a unit of work on Locavore, concentrating on the importance of using locally-sourced ingredients within their recipes.
One particular lesson involved working with Aquaculture teacher Mr Chris McGown, who taught the class how to fillet Port Lincoln High School’s own locally-grown “Class Act” barramundi. It was a highly successful lesson which involved precise knife-handling skills, numeracy to weigh and measure the fillets and overall teamwork and communication. To conclude the fish-filleting practical, students were then able to cook and eat their fish for lunch the next day.
